Commission a work in living light
A commission begins with the place the work will live, the light it will receive, and the feeling it should carry. Completed work may range from intimate hanging panels to architectural installations.
The process normally includes an initial conversation, reference material and measurements, a design proposal, glass selection, fabrication, and installation planning where required.
Submitting an inquiry does not confirm a commission. Scope, timing, pricing, and any deposit are agreed directly before work begins.
A commission deposit reserves design and studio time. If the client cancels, the deposit is forfeited.
From idea to installation
The process
Every project is different, but the working relationship should remain clear from the first conversation through final placement.
Stage 01 of 04
Conversation
We begin with the room: where the work will live, how daylight moves through it, and what you want the piece to hold. Photographs and rough dimensions are enough to start.
Stage 02 of 04
Design
Jon translates that conversation into a direction for colour, line, glass, scale, budget, and timing. You receive a clear written proposal before design work begins.
Stage 03 of 04
Making
Once the direction is agreed, the piece moves to the bench. Glass is selected, cut, assembled, and finished by hand, with progress shared at the moments that matter.
Stage 04 of 04
Placement
The final details are planned around the work itself: studio pickup, insured shipping, or installation guidance so the finished piece arrives ready to meet its light.
Preparing an inquiry
What helps at the beginning
- Photographs and approximate dimensions of the intended location
- The direction of natural light and how the room is used
- Colours, places, or existing work that feels relevant
- A practical budget range and any timing constraints
What happens next
A clear reply, then a considered proposal.
- 01
Jon reviews your idea and asks for any missing dimensions, photographs, or practical details.
- 02
If the project is a good fit, you receive a proposed scope, timing, price, and deposit requirement.
- 03
Design work and studio time begin only after both sides agree to the written proposal.
